66 : Goku's New Power
Vegeta states that the last Super Saiyan to appear was a thousand years prior (three thousand in the Ocean dub) to the beginning of Dragon Ball Z. The original legend of the Super Saiyan was more about his power than the Saiyan himself. This is likely due to all modern Saiyans being descended from the Evil Ancient Saiyans who historically wiped out the righteous Saiyans.
66 : Goku's New Power
When the Dragon Ball Z anime was released, a filler scene in the episode "Goku's New Power" was added showing Yamoshi as what looks like a Great Ape with yellowish colored fur instead of the standard brown.[2] In the filler visual, Yamoshi is shown attacking people around him, ending with his power destroying the planet that he was on.
The Super Saiyan form is believed to be a myth, until Vegeta begins to suspect that Goku is a Super Saiyan after seeing Goku easily defeating the Ginyu Force on Namek, thus witnessing his drastic increase in power in a short period of time. Vegeta's suspicions are not confirmed until later, when Goku transforms against Frieza, and states himself that he is a Super Saiyan.
When Super Saiyan God Goku is battling Beerus and believes he has reached the limit of Super Saiyan God's power and is going to lose, the "Super Saiyan God power" speaks to Goku and tells him to keep on pushing - allowing Goku to tap into more power and continue the battle.[4][5]
An anime filler scene shows Yamoshi as a Great Ape in the Super Saiyan form. In the English dub, Vegeta notes that Yamoshi could only maintain his Super Saiyan power in the Great Ape transformation, unlike Goku - who Vegeta at the time believed may have had the power of Super Saiyan in his untransformed state. The GT Perfect Files also notes that the Golden Great Ape form appears to be the Super Saiyan form from the legends, further implying that Yamoshi utilized the Golden Great Ape form.
Main articles: Legendary Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan 2In Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan, Paragus and Vegeta believe that the form used by Broly is the form that Yamoshi utilized. In Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai, Goku also believes that Yamoshi was utilizing the Legendary Super Saiyan state commonly displayed by Broly. In the Dragon Ball Super manga, it is said that the Legendary Saiyan appears once every 1,000 years, further implying that this was the form Yamoshi utilized. On a similar note, Vegeta when describing the Super Saiyan state indicates that Yamoshi ultimately ended up killed as a result of his own power destroying him, which was similar to the Legendary Super Saiyan state that was implied by Broly and Kale regarding their need to vent energy.
Goku finally lands on Namek. Recoome, Burter and Jeice wonder what just landed, thinking it was some more Namekians. Krillin, still laying on the ground, is relieved that Goku has arrived, believing that he would make it safely. Using Ki Sense, Goku finds the two strongest beings on Namek, Frieza and Captain Ginyu. He wonders why he cannot sense Gohan and Krillin's powers, until he realizes that they are barely alive. Goku races to the battle scene, feeling confident because of his 100x gravity training.
Burter and Jeice are surprised at Goku's speed, and Vegeta, injured from his battle with Recoome, feels not the least bit surprised. Goku tries to wake up Gohan, but as he is on the brink of death he doesn't respond. Goku feeds him a Senzu Bean and Gohan wakes up instantly, injuries healed, much to the shock of Recoome, Burter and Jeice. He feeds Krillin a Senzu Bean, and reads his mind to find out everything that was going on. He realizes that because of Vegeta, Gohan and Krillin are alive right now, so he gives Vegeta the last Senzu Bean. He then proceeds to face Recoome. Recoome then briefly scans Goku's power level via his scouter, and upon reading it as 5,000, he proceeds to fake fear, only to laugh and then proceeds to flip Goku off by stating that was what he thought of his power level, although Goku, taking Recoome's taunt in complete stride, confidently states that Recoome won't actually beat him.
Elsewhere, Bulma is contacted by her father and asks him where Goku is. Back at the battlefield, Recoome prepares to unleash his ultimate technique, but before he can finish, Goku elbows him with great force in the stomach, knocking him unconscious. Burter and Jeice imply that it was a lucky blow, as they used their scouters to find Goku's power level at 5,000. Vegeta is not fooled, as he senses that Goku released all his power for a quick second to knock out Recoome. Vegeta thinks that Goku has become a Super Saiyan.
The ability to become a Super Saiyan was once considered to be nothing but a legend, as it had not been performed for over one-thousand years.[4] Vegeta stated that a Super Saiyan has achieved a level of power so overwhelming that it could only be maintained in a transformed state. Despite only being told through legend, Frieza, who was considered to be the strongest being of his time, became paranoid over the possibility of truth behind the legend due to the constantly growing power of the Saiyan race. Because of this fear, Frieza came to the conclusion that he must annihilate the Saiyan race by destroying Planet Vegeta,[5] thus apparently sparking the end of the Super Saiyan legend. However, twenty-five years later, the Super Saiyan legend was proven to be true when Goku accomplished the feat during his titanic battle against the evil tyrant, Frieza.[6]
The Super Saiyan transformation comes in response to a need, not a desire.[7] In all known cases, the form has been initially triggered by either desperation or indignation. Any other conditions are unknown, and motivation tends to differ; for example, Goku achieves the form out of anger over the murder of his best-friend Krillin and Bardock achieves the form out of anger after Chilled attacked a Plant child called Berry, while Vegeta achieves the form through sheer frustration at his original inability to achieve it, especially when Goku already had.[8] While training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, Goku informs Gohan that becoming a Super Saiyan is powered by rage and told him to imagine Cell and then Frieza (after Gohan stated he had never seen Cell) killing all his friends in order for him to transform into a Super Saiyan. As the Saiyans train during Dragon Ball Z, they discover uncharted levels beyond the first Super Saiyan level. The power increases of subsequent Super Saiyan forms are so high that by the Buu Saga, the original transformation has been literally reduced to that of a "child's play thing" (as stated by Vegeta; as both Goten and Trunks can transform and harness the power adeptly at such a young age).[9]
Goku had to stand up against the opponent who sent Tambourine to kill his best friend Krillin. After recovering from his fight against Tambourine his power level grows to 246. After drinking the ultra divine water his power level grows to 313. This results in the battle of the ages, Son Goku vs Demon King Piccolo!
Son Goku & Vegeta are locked in a beam struggle but the Kaio-Ken times 3 isn't enough to hold back Vegeta's Galick Gun forcing Son Goku to amp his power up to times 4. With his new strength Goku unleashes a Kamehameha wave which completely overpowers both Vegeta and his Galick Gun.
On his way to Planet Namek, Son Goku trained for 6 days in 100 times Earth normal gravity pushing his power to new heights. During the fight with the Ginyu Force. Son Goku is able to one hit Recoome and toy around with Jeice & Burter.
While fighting against Captain Ginyu, Goku powers up to Kaio-Ken times 2. Goku's power is enough to scare Captain Ginyu who has a max power level of 120,000. Ginyu believes that Goku is the Saiyan of Legend....A Super Saiyan. After seeing Goku's power Ginyu decides to steal Goku's body in order to gain Goku's incredible power.
Captain Ginyu spontaneously stabs his chest, before revealing his true plot resorting to his ability to exchange bodies in an attempt to level with Goku.The body change is a success, but Captain Ginyu fails to make the most of Goku's shell's power level of 180,000, stopping short at just 23,000. Only in the English dub, Jeice says that the power level was actually growing weaker.
Once Goku get his body back he is taken to the Rejuvenation Chamber in Frieza's spaceship in order to restore his power. Once he is completely healed he receives a massive increase in power so much that even he couldn't believe it himself. Goku is now certain that he can take on Frieza.
This is Goku's first attempt at using the Kaio-Ken times 20. After being put in near death situation Goku unleashes a powerful Kaio-ken x20 Kamehameha on Frieza but, Frieza is able to deflect it with just one hand. Although it is very notable that goku actually matches 50% Frieza, Who also has a power level of 60,000,000
When Frieza kills Krillin and critically injures Piccolo, Goku, in anger, taps into his inner power reserves and transforms into a Super Saiyan. It has been stated in many that Super Saiyan is 50 times stronger than the base power of it's user. Frieza proves to be no match for Super Saiyan Goku, until he reaches his maximum power then he is able to fight on par with Goku until his stamina starts to drain.
While fighting Android #19 Goku stamina begins to drain due to the heart virus that Trunks warned him about. Once this takes effect his power beings to rapidly drain causing his Super Saiyan form to fade.
After leaving Kami's lookout Goku & Gohan stop at Korin's tower he asks Korin if he can measure his power to see how he stacks up against Cell. Only channeling half of his power it was enough to shock Piccolo, Vegeta & and Trunks.
Goku taps into the Full Power of a Super Saiyan while fighting Cell. He is able to put up a good fight but he still isn't strong enough to defeat Perfect Cell who was holding a great deal of his power back at the time.
Goku also achieved Super Saiyan 3 while training in Other World. While fighting against Fat Buu Goku is holding back half of his power, later he admits that he could have beat him if he wanted to instead he wanted Goten and Trunks to do defeat Buu. Super Saiyan 3 is 4x stronger than a Super Saiyan 2 or 400 times the base power of it's user. Due to heavy Ki strain Goku is unable to sustain the Super Saiyan 3 transformation for long periods of time. 041b061a72
